At first glance, the advertisement for the collision repair shop on page 49 seems like a standard automotive pitch. Featuring a slightly blurry photo of cars on a highway, it directs fans to their facility on the Malmöweg in Groningen. However, if you look closely at the text, this advertisement captures a major Dutch corporation in the exact moment of an identity shift.
The bold red headline asks, “Autoschade?” (Car damage?), aligning with the company’s official 2013 rebranding from Care Schadeservice to Care Autoschade. Yet, the digital infrastructure hadn’t quite caught up with the marketing department: the email and website listed at the bottom still prominently feature the old care-schadeservice.nl domain. Founded originally in 1989 as Vira before its first rebrand, the company was one of the largest national repair chains in the Netherlands. Advertising in the FC Groningen programme during this 2013 transition was a crucial strategy to maintain brand visibility and consumer trust while the corporate signage was literally changing above their garage doors.

A Look into the Future
By 2026, the Care brand is nothing but a memory in the Dutch automotive landscape. Despite the fresh 2013 rebrand, the chain could not survive the intense market pressures and shrinking margins of the collision repair industry. In January 2017, the company spectacularly declared bankruptcy. Its Dutch operations and physical locations, including the one on the Malmöweg, were subsequently swallowed up by its fierce competitor, Schadenet. This 2013 advertisement stands as a fascinating, slightly disjointed snapshot of a corporate giant trying to refresh its image just a few years before its total collapse.
